​George K. Lipimile is currently the Director of the newly established COMESA Competition Commission (CCC). Prior to his current appointment, he served as Senior Advisor at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in the Division of Competition and Consumer Law and Policy.  

Mr. Lipimile established and became the first Executive Director of the Zambia Competition Commission in Zambia. He has been instrumental in the drafting of several competition laws and consumer protection laws in the Southern and Eastern Africa Region. He has offered training programs and advice in the set-up of new competition authorities.

He obtained Bachelor of Arts degree and Bachelor of laws degree from the University of Zambia, and Master of Science degree in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London. He has also specialised in EC Competition Law.  


Ratshisusu Hardin

​Hardin Ratshisusu is currently the acting Deputy Commissioner and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions. He is responsible for the Commission's investigative and enforcement activities. He has oversight over the Cartels, Mergers and Acquisitions, Enforcement and Acquisitions, Policy and Research and Legal Services divisions.

Mr. Rathisusu has over 10 years' experience in the competition regulatory environment in both the public and private sector, and has worked with a number of industries, including communications, broadcasting, mining, chemicals, retailing, property, healthcare and food. 

Hardin holds a BCom (Hons-Economics) from the University of Venda, MCom (Economics) from the University of the Witwatersrand and MBL from the University of South Africa.  His areas of specialty are competition and regulatory economics, strategy, governance and research.

 


Suwazono Sadaaki

​Director of International Affairs Division, of the Secretariat of Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) since July 2013, Mr. Suwazono previously served as a Director of Cabinet Office from 2010 to 2013. His position included drafting the New Growth Strategy, so-called "Abenomics", particularly in terms of education and workforce innovation for next generation.

Mr. Suwazono was a professor of the School of Law at Tohoku University from 2009 to 2010 teaching competition law and consumer protection law.  Before that, he held several director positions at JFTC and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) from 2002 to 2010. Among of those positions, Mr. Suwazono was Director of the Planning Office of JFTC from 2003 to 2005, where he was in charge of drafting amendments to the Antimonopoly Act to introduce the Leniency Program, the Criminal Investigation Procedure and the New Hearing System to the Antimonopoly Act. In addition, from 2005 to 2007, he was in charge of drafting amendments to the Specified Commercial Transaction Act to introduce opt-in programmes and criminal sanctions for the prevention of spam mail and fraudulent internet advertisement. Prior to joining JFTC, he worked on international financial issues at Bank of Japan, the central bank of Japan.

Mr. Suwazono received his MA from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Administered with the Cooperation of Harvard University, Tufts University and his BA (economics) from Keio University.

​Mr Hebert Tassano Velaochaga is the Chairman of Peru's National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI), where he is responsible for leading the institution and the design of general policies. Mr Tassano is a lawyer with more than 25 years of experience on competition issues, consumer protection and the regulation of utilities, having previously worked in all four of Peru's utility regulators.  He studied law at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP).
