Ambassador Maged A. Abdelaziz was sworn in by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday 17th of May 2012 as Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA).  He brings to the position more than 33 years of experience in multilateral diplomacy, a direct engagement in promoting global peace, security and development.

Prior to his appointment and since January 2005, Mr. Abdelaziz served as Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations in New York.  In that capacity, he co-chaired the 2008 Review Conference on Financing for Development and, in 2009, he was the Rapporteur, representing Africa, at the Conference on the Economic and Financial Crisis and Its Impact on Development. He has served as  Vice President of the United Nations General Assembly (2008-2009) and Vice President of the Economic and Social Council (2011-12). He also represented Africa in the Bureau of the Rio+20  Conference on Sustainable Development (2011-2012) and played a significant role in ensuing its success.

As Founder and Chairman of the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization, he has built up an international company operating out of 85 offices to become a leading global provider of professional and educational services. Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh's pioneering work has been recognized by the United Nations with whom he has become chairman of 14 UN boards and initiatives including:  Digital Technologies for Sustainable Urbanization Network, Global Alliance for ICT and Development, UN Global Compact, UN Information and Communication Technologies Task Force, Advisory Committee on Internet Governance, and UN Committee of Experts on Professional Qualifications Standards, as well as boards of all international accounting bodies.

His many personal honours include 'Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur', Decoration of Independence of Jordan, Member of the WTO Panel on Defining the Future of Trade, Senator at the Jordanian Upper House, and most recently the Order of Independence of the First Order from Jordan's King Abdullah II. Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh holds 40 other decorations and awards, as well as five Honorary Doctorate Degrees. He is a Patron for Walid Gholmieh Symphonies, Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra and Chair of Jordanian National Orchestra Association.  He holds over 30 chairmanships.

​H.E. Fatima Haram Acyl has served as Commissioner for Trade and Industry at the African Union Commission (AUC) since her election in 2012. As Commissioner, Ms. Acyl has championed key elements of Agenda 2063, including preparing for the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) and establishing the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) as an AUC institution. She is steadfastly committed to Africa's structural transformation and has worked to advance trade, industry and responsible mineral resource development as fundamental drivers of that transformation.

Before joining the Commission, Ms. Acyl acquired a wide range of public and private sector experience, serving as Deputy Director General of the Agricultural Bank of Chad, Director of Finance and Administration at the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and Audit Manager at CroweChizek and Company LLC, USA (among others). Ms. Acyl has an MBA in Finance (with honours) from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, and a BS in Business Administration (Operational Research) from the University of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada.

​Mr. Najib Balala (born 20 September 1967) is a Kenyan politician and the current Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, and the immediate former M.P. for Mvita Constituency. Mr. Balala is the party leader of The Republican Congress Party of Kenya (RC) a partner of the Jubilee Coalition. Mr. Najib Balala attended the primary school, Serani Boys, which qualified him to Kakamega High, a national school. He studied Business Administration and International Urban Management and Leadership from the University of Toronto and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.


Chaibou Louali

​Since 2011 and prior to his appointment as ECOWAS Commissioner for Trade and Free Movement, Mr. Chaibou Laouali occupied two ministerial posts in his country, Niger. He was minister in charge of relations with institutions before joining the Department of Civil Service and Administrative Reform. Mr. Chaibou Laouali is well versed in the workings of administrations and state agencies; he held the positions of Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce, Agriculture, Industry and Crafts of Niger, Director General of "Doing business in Niger" and Director of Operations of the Agency for Funding and Encouragement of Free Enterprise in Niger. He was also involved in the management of numerous economic initiatives for the private sector supported by development partners such as the European Union and UNDP. This senior civil servant has been involved in the training and management development for corporate executives. Very active in associations, Mr. Laouali has created several networks and associations in the fields of economic and financial management. He holds post-graduate degrees in business management and international relations.

​Mr. Favilla is currently Executive Director for Operational Programmes and Institutional Relations at the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) based in Madrid, Spain.

From April 2007, Mr. Favilla was Vice Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations of the Presidency of Brazil. Mr. Favilla was in Belo Horizonte from 1980 to 1998, first at the Development Bank of Minas Gerais and then the State Secretariat for Finance of Minas Gerais.

Mr. Favilla has a MA in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands, where he specialized in Regional Development Planning (1985-1986). He obtained his undergraduate degree in Economics from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1979). Mr. Favilla is a Brazilian national, born in 1958.


Gutiérrez Javier A.

​The Executive Director at the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA), Javier Antonio Gutiérrez (@jantgut), has extensive experience in public administration and negotiation of trade agreements. He is originally from El Salvador, where he was a trade negotiator for the Ministry of Economy. He worked at the International Labour Organization on trade and employment issues, as well as the World Trade Organization in the Information and External Relations Division.

He has a BA in Economics from El Salvador's Superior School of Economics and Business and has a Master's Degree in International Law and Economics from the World Trade Institute of the University of Bern, Switzerland.

At SIECA, he was advisor to the Secretary-General before his appointment as executive director in October 2015.

Kyambadde  Amelia

H.E. Amelia Kyambadde is serving a second five-year term as Member of Parliament for Mawokota North Constituency, Mpigi District having been elected, first, in 2011, and re-elected in 2016. She was appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives in May 2015 and re-appointed in 2016.  She served as National Treasurer of the ruling National Resistance Movement Party from 2010 to 2016. She has been Chairperson of the Common Market for East and Southern Africa Council of Ministers (2013/14) and Coordinator of the Group of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) at WTO for the year 2014.

Ms Kyambadde holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from American Intercontinental University, UK.  Her areas of research works includes AGOA Initiative and Promotion of Trade for Uganda - Opportunities, Challenges or External Dominations; The effects of Marketing Variables on Non-traditional Export crops; and Introduction of Information Technology into the Development of Coffee Industry in Uganda. She speaks fluent English and Swedish.

She founded and is the Patron of Twezimbe Development Foundation, an NGO through which she has initiated socio-economic community development activities in her Constituency in the areas of health (especially maternal health and HIV/AIDS), education, and the growth of household incomes to enhance the quality of life.


MacFeely Steve

​Mr. MacFeely is the Head of Statistics and Information Branch at UNCTAD, Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Policy Studies at the University College in Cork, Ireland and Director of the International Association of Statistics Education statistical literacy programme. Before working at UNCTAD, he was the Assistant Director-General at the Central Statistics Office (CSO) in Ireland. He has wide research interests, including family business, cross-border shopping, productivity, tourism, input-output, regional policy and data infrastructure.

Malam Abdou Salé

Since 2002 Mr. Malam Abdou is responsible for external trade statistics of the eight member countries of the WAEMU. He deals with the collection and processing of external trade data of WAEMU Member States with a view to consolidating the production, publication and dissemination of WAEMU regional statistical yearbooks.

From 1995 to 2002, Mr. Malam Abdou was head of customs statistics of the Directorate General of Customs of Niger. In this position he was in charge of customs statistics, including studies and revenue projections through simulations of different taxes.

From 1987 to 1993, Mr. Malam Abdou was responsible for external trade statistics at the National Directorate of Statistics (currently the National Institute of Statistics) in Niger. He was in charge of developing the foreign trade statistics through the collection and processing of customs data for the production, publication and dissemination of external trade statistical yearbooks of Niger.

​H.E. Mr. Mohamed Yehia Rashed assumed the position of Minister of Tourism in 2016. Mr. Rashed is a seasoned hotel manager, having worked in the hotel industry in various countries around the world since graduating from hotel school. His career in the hospitality business has seen him work for Marriott for 33 years in the United States, Europe and Africa. In 1997, he landed his first job as general manager of the newly-opened Paris Marriott in the Champs-Élysées. After spending more than seven years in the French capital, he moved to Amsterdam in 2004, where he became the general manager of the Dutch capital’s Renaissance Hotel. Mr. Rashed then returned to Egypt, where he became the Chief Leading Officer for Al Kharafi Group for Tourism.

​Dongwei Shi joined Alibaba Group in March 2015, as Vice President responsible for group public affairs. Before joining Alibaba, he was Vice President of Starbucks Coffee Company responsible for China public affairs from 2008 until 2015. He worked as Director of Global Public Affairs for China in Lucent Technologies from 2001 to 2004, and Vice President, Corporate Relations of Agilent Technologies from 2004 to 2008.

Dongwei worked as the Deputy Division Director, Division Director in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China from 1989 to 2001, including a posting at the Chinese Embassy in Singapore, and Chinese Consulate General in Mumbai, India. He also participated in the China-UK negotiations for the return of Hong Kong from 1995 to 1997.

Dongwei holds bachelor of law in Diplomacy from China Foreign Affairs University in 1989, and M.A in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University, Australia in 1999. He is also a part-time professor in the Public Affairs Management Department, Chinese Academy of Governance (2016-2018), and vice chairman of China Digital Economy Committee of ICC (International Chamber of Commerce), and the deputy to Jack Ma, Chairman of SME taskforce of B20 China, 2016, and executive chairman of Alibaba Group, joining the B20 discussion on SME development through e-commerce.

​Mr. Taufikurrahman (Taufik) is the Executive Director of the Indonesia Services Dialogue Council (ISD), the umbrella organization of the services sector in Indonesia. Prior to his leadership role in ISD, he was Country Director and President Director of PT Emerson Indonesia, part of Emerson Electric USA, one of the American Fortune 500 technology companies, which is also listed as one the World's Most Admired Companies in the Electronic Industry according to the Fortune Magazine.

Mr. Taufikurrahman is also well known for his expertise in Oil and Gas sectors and Energy infrastructure, which was mostly obtained during his professional working experiences with some leading Oil & Gas and Energy companies including Shell (Royal Dutch Shell), Premier Oil, and Pertamina, while his expertise in financial services and public sector management was obtained during his working experience with the World Bank and the Ministry of Finance Republic of Indonesia.

Mr. Taufikurrahman is a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CA (Chartered Accountant), and member of the Indonesian Institute of Accountants (IAI) and the Indonesian Institute of Public Accountants (IAPI). He obtained his first degree in Accounting from the State College of Accountancy (STAN) through Government Scholarship Program. He is also a Cum Laude Graduate from the University of Indonesia (UI) in Economics/Accounting, and reached his Master Degree in Management Accounting from the Universitas Indonesia (UI) through Premier Oil Scholarship.

​Ms. Rita Teaotia joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1981 and served in the Districts of Panchmahal and Gandhinagar in Gujarat. Subsequently, she worked in the energy sector as MD, Gujarat Industries Power Company Ltd., and Secretary (Energy). She has worked extensively at policy making and strategic levels in the fields of Education, Health, Women's Development and Rural Development.

From 2003 to 2007, she worked as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare focusing on Food Safety, Drugs Control Administration and National Disease Control Programmes.

From March 2012 to June 2015, she worked in the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology in the areas of e-Governance, and Telecommunications Policy. In this capacity, she has worked on standards and manufacturing, promoting telecom products, telecom information policy and revival telecom Public Sector.

Ms. Rita Teaotia joined as Commerce Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry w.e.f. 1st July 2015.

​Elizabeth (Liz) Wheeler is the Chief Executive Officer of Micato Safaris East Africa. She has been in the tourism industry for over 23 years, specializing in third-world and emerging destinations, and has worked in over 80 countries. Ms. Wheeler joined Micato Safaris in 1997 as Senior Director of Field Operations overseeing product delivery and service standards in East Africa, Southern Africa, and India. As Chief Operating Officer, her oversight expanded to development of new product and marketing initiatives for presentation to the luxury market. During her tenure Micato Safaris has won numerous industry awards, including being named Travel & Leisure’s World’s Best Tour and Safari Operator a record 9 times. Ms. Wheeler is currently President of the American Chamber of Commerce Kenya, and Chairman of its Tourism Committee. She is a founding member of the Nairobi Overseas Security Advisory Council.
