Chandaria Group

Darshan Chandaria at only 30 is the Group CEO and Director of Chandaria Group, which is one of the largest private-owned business groups in East and Central Africa. Chandaria Group has highly diversified operations in tissue, paper, hygiene products manufacturing, insurance flexible packaging, real estate, automobile manufacturing, mining, solar energy generation and other investments spread across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, India and Dubai. The group's flagship company, Chandaria Industries Limited, is the largest tissue and hygiene products manufacturer in Kenya, East and Central Africa.

Darshan Chandaria was appointed as a Director in 2012 and as Group CEO in 2015. He has been instrumental in transforming Chandaria Group from a Kenyan family business into an East African conglomerate. He is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, an exclusive global network of business owners and CEO's, and the African Leadership Network, Africa's leading business owners and CEO's organization.

He holds a Bachelor degree in Business Management from Cardiff University in the UK.

Ferreira Paulo

Paulo Ferreira

Deputy Minister of Economy and Secretary of State for Commerce

​Paulo Ferreira is Deputy Minister of Economy and Secretary of State for Commerce in the Portuguese Republic. He has extensive knowledge and experience in regard to commerce and economics. His previous posts include Senior Economist in Banco de Portugal, the central bank of Portugal; Budget Counsellor in Portuguese Permanent Representation to the EU; Chairman of the Audit Committee in Águas de Portugal SGPS, holding company in water provision and wastewater treatment; Fiscal Affairs Specialist in the Steering Committee responsible for the delivery of the regional and local finance draft laws; Tax Official in Portuguese Tax Agency – Directorate General for Taxation; Economic Adviser to the Portuguese Minister of State and Finance in the Minister's Cabinet; Fiscal Affairs Specialist in the Working Group responsible for the delivery of the Budget Framework draft law, among others.

He has Master and Bachelor degrees in Economics from Faculdade de Economia da Universidade do Porto.

Arancha González

Executive Director

​Ms. Arancha González is an expert in international trade issues with 20 years of experience; serving as Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC) since September 2013. Ms. González, a Spanish national, has extensive knowledge about international trade and economics, coupled with broad experience in trade and development matters in the public and private sectors, as well as in management at multilateral organizations. Before joining ITC, Ms. González served as Chief of Staff to World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Pascal Lamy from 2005 to 2013. During her tenure at the WTO, she played an active role in launching the WTO's Aid for Trade initiative and served as Mr. Lamy's representative at the G-20. Prior to working at the WTO, Ms. González held several positions at the European Commission, conducting negotiations of trade agreements and assisting developing countries in trade-development efforts. Between 2002 and 2004, she was the European Union spokeswoman for trade and adviser to the European Union Trade Commissioner. Ms. González began her career in the private sector advising companies on trade, competition and state-aid matters. She served as an associate at Bruckhaus Westrick Stegemann, a major German law firm, in Brussels. Ms. González holds a degree in law from the University of Navarra and a postgraduate degree in European Law from the University of Carlos III, Madrid.

Ireland ​Jay

​Jay Ireland

President and CEO
General Electric Africa

​Jay Ireland is the President and CEO of General Electric (GE) Africa located in Nairobi, Kenya where he leads GE's operations on the sub-continent across power generation, healthcare, transportation, oil & gas and aviation. He is a GE Officer and a member of GE's Corporate Executive Council.

Prior to this appointment in 2011, Mr. Ireland led GE Asset Management (GEAM), a global investment firm with about US$120 billion in assets under management. Before heading GEAM, he was President of NBC Universal Television Stations and Network Operations where he had overall executive responsibility for NBC Universal's 10 television stations, the Telemundo network and its 16 Spanish language television stations. Before joining NBC in 1999, he had been the CFO of GE Plastics. Ireland started his career with General Electric in 1980 in its Financial Management Program after 3 years as a US Army Officer.

Jay Ireland serves as Vice Chair on the Board of Directors of the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA). He is a member of the Private Investors for Africa (PIA) and the World Economic Forum Business Working Group for regional projects in Africa. Jay Ireland is also a member of the board of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation and a Trustee of St. Lawrence University where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1977.

A frequent public speaker, Jay Ireland won the Africa investor Magazine's 'International Business Leader of the Year' award in 2013 for the second consecutive year.

Njenga George N.

George N. Njenga

Founder and Dean
Strathmore Business School

​George N. Njenga is the current and founding Dean of Strathmore Business School (SBS). Presently, he is the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research and Quality Assurance and the Academic Director for the SBS Advanced Management Program. He is also a senior lecturer at Strathmore University in Ethics and Leadership. He has a Masters in Governance and Culture of Institutions and a PhD (honours) in Political Philosophy from the University of Navarra, Spain. Mr. Njenga also has a Masters in Business Administration and is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya.

He was the Director of the Strathmore School of Accountancy in 2002-2005. Whilst in that position, he successfully set up formal training programs of the Certified Financial Analyst and Certified Information Systems Auditor for the first time in Kenya. He helped initiate the first successful School of Finance and Banking in Kigali, Rwanda. He worked as a senior auditor at Ernst and Young Kenya between 1989 and 1992. He was also the Strathmore College Financial Manager for four years, 1992-1996. Since 1992 he has held other positions in Strathmore University. Specifically, Administrator, Human Resource Director and Director of the School of Accountancy. He has served as a trustee for the Universities Provident Fund Scheme and has been a member of the University Management Board and Academic Council.

He is a founding board member of the Association of African Business Schools and an International advisory board member of Global Business Schools Network. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of Pacis Insurance Company.

Setipa Joshua

Joshua Setipa

Minister of Trade and Industry

H.E. Joshua Setipa was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry in the Kingdom of Lesotho in March 2015. As Trade and Industry Minister, he is in charge of providing overall policy direction on industrialization, as well as overseeing trade matters within multilateral and bilateral settings. He has broad experience gained at national, regional and international levels, working on economic and developmental issues such as capacity building and global economic policy.

Prior to his appointment, Joshua Setipa joined the Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) in January 2012 and served as CEO of the LNDC until April 2014. The LNDC is the main parastatal of the Government of Lesotho charged with the implementation of the country's industrial development policies.  From 2005 to December 2011, he served as Senior Advisor to Pascal Lamy, Director General of the World Trade Organization.

Joshua Setipa obtained an MBA degree from the University of Bradford in the UK. after studying international trade policy at Australian National University, and political science at National University of Lesotho.
